Microcosm by Matali Crasset for Nodus
A collage made up of varying hues of green, the Microcosm rug by French designer Matali Crasset for Italian rug brand Nodus resembles an aerial view of green fields.
Just like a work of art, Matali Crasset’s Microcosm rug for Nodus can be interpreted in a number of different ways.
Launched earlier this year during the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the Microcosm rug is hand-knotted from 100 percent wool in Nepal. Crasset explains: “The design can be interpreted in a number of different ways, according to the scale one uses: city map, a diffracted image or a representation of matter from the inside.”
A black grid forms a patchwork of squares that have been woven in varying hues of green. Eschewing the standard straight or tasseled edges found on traditional rug designs, the black lines of the grid extend outwards from the rug creating an abstract silhouette.
