Biodegradable Fiber Composite: Impasto by Steenfatt
Copenhagen-based Steenfatt is reworking leftovers from wood, coffee, and skin production into a unique fiber composite known as Impasto. Biodegradable and natural, Impasto gets its colors from pigments mixed into each batch of dough, which "makes every sheet unique." The material is then shaped by vacuum forming. The resulting furniture and lighting by Steenfatt features beautiful texture, subtle colors, and organic forms.
Oak and Fiber Composite Chairs
Steenfatt's chairs and benches combine Impasto with oak to create a "hand made-high tech" look. The impasto seems to have grown from the very seat of the chair like moss, an effect that's strengthened when the Impasto is green. The finely shaped, hard wooden frame and legs work in concert with Impasto's irregular shape and sinuous contours. Impasto has also yielded felt-like suspension lights.
