Glass Lab is an ingenious glass recycling system that transforms glass waste into functional products. The idea is simple: local waste, local collection, and local process for local use. Part of the Royal College of Art Graduate Exhibition 2013, Glass Lab is the brainchild of Mexican-born, London-based designer Diana Simpson Hernandez.

A New System for Local Collection, Processing, and Transformation of Glass Waste

Glass Lab collects and crushes glass waste from small businesses, then puts the material to use creating products such as bollards, street furniture, tiles, and lights. The collected glass gets mixed with a vegetable-based bioresin then cast into products intended for local use. Small businesses thereby get rid of waste easily and local communities benefit from Glass Lab products, especially when installed in public spaces.
