This year, Shanghai-based contemporary furniture maker Stellar Works returned to the 57th annual Salone del Mobile to debut several new works within the grand spaces of Milan’s National Museum of Science and Technology. Staying true to its cross-cultural roots, the company debuted new pieces from Chinese architects Neri & Hu, Australian design studio Nic Graham, Danish studio SPACE CPH, and Copenhagen-based OeO, which is led by its own creative director Thomas Lykke. Ming Collection by Neri & Hu: An exploration of ancient Chinese furniture forms and crafts, Shanghai-based designers and architects Neri & Hu have created a new iteration of the Ming style with their collection. Designed to offer a blend of Asian decorative art and Western functionality, the collection includes chairs, tables, and stools that coordinate with a variety of modern styles.

QT Collection by Nic Graham: Inspired by mid-century design, Australia-based Nic Graham also takes inspiration from twentieth-century furniture designs from Australia. The designer first developed the collection for QT Hotels; now the collection is available for the residential market. Pictured is the QT lounge chair, which is available with and without cupholder armrests.

Laval writing desk

Laval collection by OeO: Reinterpreting French style to reflect traits of Japanese and Scandinavian simplicity, the Laval collection is a collaboration between Laval and Danish design studio OeO. The Laval desk (above) has a natural or black painted ash body with a black steel frame and natural tanned leather top.

Rugs collection by OeO: The new collection of modern rugs is inspired by traditional hand-knotted and dyed rugs created by craftsmen in Tibet, Nepal, India and Pakistan for thousands of years. Simple geometric patterns are augmented with a rich palette of hand-loomed Persian wools.
