Milan 2013 Preview: Tom Dixon Unveils New Lighting
As we pack our bags for Milan, Tom Dixon has sent a preview of what’s to come at Design Week. The collection of eight new product families includes tables, mirrors, and stands for books and coats. The lighting group is a highlight of the new work, which celebrates “the joy of contrast” with interplay between smooth and rough finishes.
The new collection will be previewed at the MOST show, which will be held at Milan’s National Museum of Science and Technology
Flask Pendant
: Made of two hand-blown glass globes, representing a mysterious chemistry experiment involving a flask and hood, the Flask Pendant reflects light with a ridged and rounded base and a smoked glass globe that reduces glare.
Cell Pendant: Available in short and long models, the Cell Pendant is based on the idea of cellular growth. Designed to be arranged in a range of configurations, each “cell” is made from etched and polished brass, which casts intricate shadows on the surrounding surfaces.
Bell Lamps: Both the Bell Table and Bell Floor lamps continue Tom Dixon’s explorations into highly polished surfaces. Formed from a dome suspended over a chrome-plated, pressed steel dome, the design’s mirrored surfaces allow it to reflect its surroundings.
