Milan 2013: Cappellini
New introductions by Cappellini in Milan ran the gamut from fun to functional:
Designers from Jasper Morrison to Nendo contributed to the Italian company’s newest offerings
Jasper Morrison’s leather Cap chair (top and above) has solid ash legs, and simple, contemporary lines.
Morrison’s Oblong seating system creates double-sided configurations for residential or contract projects with modules in various colors and shapes. Cushions have removable covers in fabric or leather upholstery and seats are 55 cm or 75 cm deep; the terminal may or may not have the armrest.
Also part of his 2013 work, Morrison created a new version of Cappellini’s Lotus armchair, named Lotus Color, with a swivel base and armrests in three colors with a matt finish: chocolate, beige and white.
Nendo’s low, round armchair is named Peg due to solid ash rear legs that pierce the chair’s back. Inspired by mini cars, its shape is designed to provide lower back support in spite of its small size. A complementary Peg table is also available.
Marcel Wanders’ Dalia armchair resembles the shape of a flower. Its shell is made of fiberglass and resin and is padded with a seat and backrest available in a wide range of fabrics, leather, and Alcantara.
Also by Wanders, the new Decï door system features a relief pattern finished in light oak or wenge. Cappellini achieved the design’s unique chiaroscuro effect using new technology to print the system’s panels.
Sylvain Willenz’s Candy shelf design is inspired by steel rebar used to reinforce concrete structures. The normally rusty bars are finished with an industrial coating process and are available in five Candy matte colours (blue, green, white red and black), with separating boards in natural wood finish.
Giulio Cappellini’s Windows design features slim modules that can be place on a floor or atop a metal base. Available in contrasting colors, the system can be arranged in a variety of configurations.
