Table Installations by Nendo for Caesarstone

In anticipation of this year’s Milan furniture fair, Caesarstone has announced that Oki Sato of Japanese design studio Nendo will be unveiling a collection of stone tables at Palazzo Crivelli in the Brera Design District.

Nendo’s installation will explore Caesarstone’s quartz surface materials, emphasizing their inherent qualities of strength, durability and design.

The Stone-Edge Table collection consists of seven wooden tables of different sizes and proportions, and each embellished with quartz stone corner and leg details. Each table is made with a different stone from Caesarstone's Classico collection. The stone functions as both a decorative and protective feature of the most exposed parts of a table.

Oki Sato, founder and chief designer of Nendo, says,"In designing the Stone-Edge Table collection, I was able to take advantage of the strength of the material. Rather than ostentatiously applying the material to the entire design, we created wooden tables and used Caesarstone to protect the table top corners.”

Another installation by Nendo, that was unveiled earlier this year at IDS13 in Toronto, called Stone Garden will also be on show in Milan. Designed with Nendo’s characteristic minimal style, Stone Garden consists of around 200 table-like elements made out of seven different stone-shaped quartz surfaces and nine different stone colours, each supported by a simple metal rod and secured by an overlapping design. The elements are clustered together to form a seemingly floating landscape.

Oki Sato desccribes Stone Garden as an “installation explores the boundary between 'furniture' and 'non-furniture'”, he says, “The unique variety and quality of natural colours and textures of the Caesarstone surfaces are perfect to be arranged in a composition like the stylized landscape of a Japanese rock garden." Stone Garden will be on display in the Palazzo’s courtyard from April 9 - 13, 2013.
