Grand Repos by Antonio Citterio for Vitra
In the interest of mixing business with pleasure, Vitra has introduced Repos and Grand Repos, a lounge chair that uses office chair technology to increase comfort.
“Developing a new chair for Vitra in the wake of a masterpiece like the Eames Lounge Chair was a unique challenge,” explains Antonio Citterio.
The chair encourages movement with a large, upholstered seat and backrest on a swiveling base. “Its design tells the story of people and their relationships,” says Citterio. “Common ideas are born of ethical considerations and a sense for adventure.”
A smaller version of the design, Repose, has a wingless headrest. Both feature a biomechanical construction that allows the chair to adapt to the user’s position with an angled seat. A mechanism that senses the user’s weight can also be locked in any position. The chair’s wide armrests and lumbar support increase its ergonomics. The line is available with a swiveling ottoman or upholstered, four-legged footrest.
