Brno Lounge Chair from Amos Design
Mies van der Rohe’s Villa Tugendhat in Brno, Czech Republic, is a UNESCO monument and one of the world’s most iconic examples of modern design. When Amos Design undertook its interior reconstruction last year, it also created replicas of the furniture originally designed for the villa.
Amos Design’s replicas correspond to pieces created for the Villa Tugendhat in 1930
Though the original Brno chair was designed along with a dining table and coffee table, today it is mainly used in offices. The first chair was relatively hard and was upholstered with parchment. Another model had a frame constructed with a flat steel bar and more comfortable upholstery.
The reconstruction’s replicas were reproduced from Mies’s flexible-tube design, re-imagined as a low lounge chair. Dimensions have been adjusted to provide more comfort and the seat and backrest are upholstered in Spinneybeck leather. Along with the chair, Amos Design is also producing a side table with a bent tube frame and white Carrara marble top.
