Biodegradable Style: Camira Hemp Fabric

It’s hard to improve on hemp—nature’s soft, renewable, and compostable textile material—but UK-based Camira has paired the durable fiber with another natural wonder, wool, to create a new line of sustainable fabrics for contract interiors.

The Hemp line is inherently fire-retardant and is backed by Camira’s five-year wear warranty

The biodegradable blend of 60 percent new wool and 40 percent harvested hemp is available in 25 colors carefully designed to anticipate future color trends while complementing existing products. In many of the shades, only the wool fibers are dyed, allowing the un-dyed hemp to create textural contrast. Other colorways undergo a longer double-dying process that imparts darker, richer colors to both the hemp and the wool fibers.
