We Have Liftoff: Apollo by International

is just the name for an award-winning lamp from two designers who have recently launched their careers to new celestial heights.

The design, by Marc Bell and Robin Grasby of London-based International, won this year’s [D]3 Contest Interior Innovation Award

Made of spun aluminum that is fabricated with a five-axis laser cutter before anodization, the Apollo lamp from International uses a modular system of shades to create a shape-shifting pendant. Solid shapes and perforated forms can be layered in a variety of configurations on a standard screw-cup lamp holder, allowing not only the quality of light but also the aesthetic of the lamp to be customized.

About the Manufacturer: Marc Bell and Robin Grasby founded International, a London-based furniture and product design studio, in 2010. This year their Apollo design won the [D]3 Contest Interior Innovation Award for young designers in Cologne.
