No matter the technology used to make today’s most cutting-edge industrial designs, the best inspiration still seems to come from nature. A testament to that paradox, Germany-based Studio Dreimann‘s Aki lamp for Leucos USA‘s ITRE brand is based on the designers’ concept of sunlight filtering through tree branches.

Designed for ITRE by Studio Dreimann, Aki combines LED technology with precise CNC milling

Known for using the latest technology to create innovative lighting, ITRE’s new suspension lamp is made of layered wood that has been CNC milled to create an open structure. Six LED strips are embedded in its underside, lighting the wood from within when illuminated. A thin, silkscreen-printed polycarbonate diffuser ensures a comfortable light level. The lamp is available in natural or varnished Okume wood or in lacquered white or gray.
