Back To School: ECAL and Cranbrook Academy of Art with Alessi
Alessi’s collaborations with the Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne, or ECAL, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art may help to soften the blow of returning to our desks after a summer outdoors.
The collaborations with Cranbrook and ECAL produced nine new items for Alessi’s 2012 lines
In 2012, Alessi has begun to manufacture designs created with both schools in recent years. Designs with Cranbrook started with a workshop in 2009; led by metalsmithing artist-in-residence and program director Scott Klinker, the program focused on creating contemporary American products that would allow students to strengthen their knowledge silversmithing and metalsmithing while producing prototypes in the school’s labs. The company’s 2010 collaboration with ECAL’s students began with the theoretical idea of hybrid objects that could be used both in commercial and residential office settings. That workshop was led by Professor Elric Petit and its resulting collection premiered at the 2011 Milan Furniture Fair.
