Onkel Sofa by Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen
We all seem to have a crazy cool uncle (or two, if we’re lucky) who is completely and utterly, 100% “with it”. In my case, I’ve got two uncles in California with the best taste in furnishings – making it an absolute joy not only to visit them for the sake of catching up, but also to see their eclectic mix of constantly evolving interior fashion.

Mid-Century Magic in a Solid-Colored, Modern Day Sofa
Immediately drawn to Simon Legald‘s new Onkel sofa for Normann Copenhagen, I was reminded of their taste for “old-meets-new”. The best part: it’s not only because they’d love this buttoned-up, bold piece, but also because it happens to be named after them, using the word for “uncle”, in Danish, in their (“Onkel” sofa) title.
Featuring sweeping, gentle curves, a tufted and cushioned backrest, and the simplicity of taut, durable upholstery, the Nordic sofa design stands firm with an invitation to sit against its refined seatback. Inspired by the upholstered sofas of the pre-1950s, the Onkel brings together a certain curiosity that Legald has honed for mixing tried and true materials with expert 21st century craftsmanship.
In a plain-colored frame that has been completely color-lacquered to match, the Onkel sofa by Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen is a uniform piece of modern furniture built to last using a timeless style that even my uncles wouldn’t dare replace.

About the Manufacturer: Normann Copenhagen is opinionated about what constitutes a good product. The formula might briefly be summarized as one part aesthetic innovation and one part high function. If that sounds vague, simply take a gander at the company’s compelling product offerings, as useful and attractive home accessories like their Folding Funnel, their Grass Vase, and their Cable-Concealing Dog provide the proof in the pudding for this forward-thinking firm.
