Designer Charlotte Lancelot is marrying two very disparate elements in her new rug collection for Spanish company GAN. A mixture of grandmother’s cross stitching and digital pixilation, the new Canevas Cross Stitch Collection uses those telltale little x’s in abstract and expressionistic patterns.

Pixelated Wool Area Rugs with Textural Appeal

Made of 100% wool, the three area rugs in the Canevas Cross Stitch Collection play with the concept of handcrafting: “Cross-stitch that’s reinterpreted, their support and materials updated, can be totally transformed yet maintain their essence and bring warmth back to our surroundings.” Abstract Rosa, Abstract Verde, and Flowers look like atomized versions of traditional cross stitching. Available in 5’7” x 7’11”, the three carpets still offer the textural appeal of the stitching technique, since the designs are created through a system of raised x’s.

While the two abstract designs bring to mind the pixelation of today’s techno world, the Flowers rug appears the most traditional. But its floral pattern is partially erased and effaced, an effect that modernizes the look. It offers the best of both worlds—a nod to the exacting skill of cross stitch in a updated translation.

About the Manufacturer: GAN is the rug division of Gandia Blasco, the Spanish furniture company known for promoting a Mediterranean lifestyle with its indoor/ outdoor collections.
