Join the club: I’m a master at perfect gray hues with slight fading, the right amount of stitching, and perfect texture. Thanks to a new side table design by Matthew Robinson, a Leeds College of Art student from the UK, his Fusion table bottles up his fantastical style and imagination so you don’t have to try hard at all.

The Fusion Side Tables Combine Imagination and Modern, Solid Wood Construction
Constructed out of solid wood, Robinson’s Fusion tables are an optical illusion that combines a normal light or dark wood finished table with an unexpected twist. In a curvaceous carpentry masterpiece, a blob of what looks like liquid wood starts on one tabletop corner and drips down, forming one leg with a rounded bottom.
Created out of solid wood, the happy, playful look of the Fusion tables are manufactured by hand using American Walnut or Maple wood. An almost cartoon-like appearance brings a sense of fun into an everyday piece of furniture.
Most adults stop playing the way they should, leaving the fun shapes and bright colors to kids alone and instead opting for safe and reliable. Knowing that the Fusion table is made with strong wood and savvy, young furniture-making skills only helps its case as the best way to “infuse” fun into a overly-mature setting.
About the Designer: Matthew Robinson is a furniture designer-maker who studied furniture making at Leeds College of Art. He uses innovative techniques in manufacturing to design a range of pieces that communicate visually. Based in the UK, it’s quite remarkable that Robinson uses solid timber and traditional joinery techniques without straying too far from modern designs of tables, benches, and drawer units for residential use.
