The New Antler Lamps by Volker Haug
Tucked away in Melbourne, Australia the German-born designer, Volker Haug, has been “innately drawn to lighting like a moth to the veritable flame” since his youthful years. With no better way to be introduced to his eccentric, natural, form-driven designs that illuminate the interior walls, ceilings and table surfaces than through a glossy set or two of antlers, I’ve been growing more fond of the Two Arm Antler lamp and Four Arm Antler lamp every second.

The Modern Pendant or Wall-Mounted Antler Lamps by Volker Haug Have Defined Personality
In the second round of antler lighting designing, Matilda decided to bring the creations of 30 different product designers and makers from Australia to the London Design Festival 2011. Haug’s Two Arm Antler lamp and the Four Arm Antler lamp made their appearances by livening up the space with their brilliance and glazed finishes. Made completely out of individually cast porcelain components that are then fused together, the Two Arm Antler is shown here as a wall lamp, like a sconce, whereas the Four Arm Antler hangs boldly from the ceiling above.
Using brown and white glazes with custom-etched candle designs, the Two Arm Antler lamp measures in at a mere 18.1″W x 11.8″H and retains its sleek look with less opportunity for bulbs to shine in every direction. With the same finishes and height, the four arms of its larger sister lamp somehow measures only 21.7″W and looks unmistakably similar to the rack of a reindeer hanging from the ceiling as a pendant lamp or as a wall-mounted lamp.
Using more than the natural look of deer antlers to inspire these modern pieces of beaming artwork, the lighting designs by Volker Haug infuse a personal twist that he is known for in every minimalist piece that finds its way out of his studio.
