Lots of Paper Stool by Cecilie Manz
Folding paper into origami shapes tests our mind and our patience. It’s the ultimate test for hand-eye coordination, how well one interprets step-by-step instructions and a great attention to the detailed folds that teaches young kids to adults a bit about how to deal with life in general. Taking it upon herself to figure out a strong folding technique, Danish designer Cecilie Manz created the Lots of Paper stool.

“A Seat Made of Tesselations” is the Lots of Paper Stool by Cecilie Manz
Handcrafted like an individual origami figure, the artistic nature of Manz’s limited edition Lots of Paper stool comes through with each angular fold of the paper that makes up its entire shape. The seat itself is made with solid paper that can hold up to 66 lb. This fact makes the Lots of Paper stool more of a decorative piece than a functional one, deemed as “a seat made of tesselations” by the designer herself.
Manz also designed the Beolit 12 wireless speaker by Bang & Olufsen that has a similar, clean aesthetic – except that it was held by a leather strap and was more concerned about volume than the thin look of its successor in stool form. Using elaborate folds and tesselated structures, the Lots of Paper is an artistic wonder that takes a total two full days to hand construct.
Inspired by the repeated and yet surprisingly fresh design of Cecilie Manz, each of her furnishings, lamps, glass and other products, the Lots of Paper stool is one of her latest and greatest origami-like pieces.
About the Designer: Cecilie Manz was trained at the Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen, Denmark before furthering her studies at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki.
