A True Polywood Story: The Pleg Lamp by Yonoh for LZF

When I was young I used to love making gooey taffy with my sisters after my mom regretted ever trying the easy recipe with us. It eventually formed a hard candy no matter what we did to prevent it, but the process of stretching it and bending the colorful forms are what stick with me today. Upon seeing the vision that is the Pleg wall lamp, a rush of sugary sweet candymaking memories stream.  The wall lamp by Yonoh for LZF similarly flows in curves combined with striated lines in eight warm color options.

Designed by the multidisciplinary creative studio, Yonoh, that belongs to Clara del Portillo and Alex Selma, the slick, rounded lamp shade follows the team’s motto that has been used since their studio began back in 2006. Characterized by simple, functional pieces, Yonoh brings out the LZF spirit using the same innovative spirit that sets their authentic creations apart from the crowd. The eight wood veneer finishes offered by LZF range from natural wood shades to yellow, orange, red and silver-gray to match any interior design.

“Pleg is a wall lamp born from a very simple gesture: that of folding a Polywood® sheet,” describes LZF of their splendid little design. “The light is diffused through the open sides while passing through the front piece of the veneer. Thanks to its small size Pleg can fit in nearly any space, horizontally or vertically. In each case, the effect will be different.” Against the wall, the Pleg’s horizontal shape measures 26.5 cm wide, 11.5 cm deep and 18 cm high.

As a Good Design Award winner in 2011, the Pleg wall lamp by Yonoh for LZF merits an applause for being both memorable and modern, since it’s interior effect lights up a room as sweetly as the similar, smooth and stretched out appearance of homemade taffy (or the memory of it).

About the Manufacturer: LZF lamps, or Luzifer as they were originally called, is a company founded in 1994 that specializes in light-making. Since the start, it has made handmade lights out of wood veneer that radiates a certain warmth that glows also within each of their employees. Winning two Good Design Awards, two Design Plus Award and one Red Dot prize, LZF understands the art of wood well enough that they’ve also begun branching out from only lighting, and including other wood products.
