Tettonica Furniture by Janina Loeve
created the layers of milled wood in as little wood as possible to create a sculptural, limited edition series of furniture for the Dutch Design Week that went from October 22-30, 2011. The name of it is Tettonica and the side table and stool designs were created to bring lovely “landscape qualities into the interior”.

Wood and Felt or Glass Create the Tettonica Side Furniture in Stools and Table Forms by Studio Janina Loeve.
Appearing like a tree trunk in the way that the cylinder curves slightly, the Tettonica side furniture is manufactured with awareness of material usage and weight. Loeve asks the rhetorical question of whether or not we can “experience the space outside the house while we are inside?” The answer appears to be a yes, with skilled craftsmanship and well-intentioned designers scaling structures down and glass tops for the Tettonica side table’s surface, and a cushioned felt for the removable top of the stool.
Handmade in the Netherlands, the hollowed out designs of the Tettonica side table and stool are made with layer upon layer of a plywood known as Okoum© multiplex. Lightweight and perfected with rings that were all milled from the same wood board, the lines are stacked one on top of the other to form a volume and create the furniture spotted at Dutch Design Week by Studio Janina Loeve.
Simple formations of imperfect circles stacked on top of one another allows for the Tettonica side tables and stools to bring the outside design inspiration into the indoor space.
About the Designer: Janina Loeve designs a vast assortment of furniture and food-focused items that improve everyday life. Strong personalities set apart her Tettonica side tables and stools from a pair of wood and wool heeled shoes she created, or the art of breadmaking that she also made into a designed object. Hailing from the Netherlands, Janina Loeve’s work is prolific and challenging, spanning a wide range of objects and interiors.
