Get Bowled Over: Bulldozer Lounge by Mark and Efe
Having grown up in a family where everyone was in the construction or engineering field, I am familiar with heavy, earth-moving equipment. I know the difference between a Komatzu and a Deere, and I can drive a Bobcat with surprising skill (or at least adequacy). But as a child, the most iconic heavy equipment were the signature yellow machines of CAT, including my favorite, the bulldozer.

Industrial Lounger Celebrates Human Imagination
Apparently, I am not the only one who likes the industrial chic of such large-scale behemoths. Design firm Mark and Efe have introduced the Bulldozer Lounge at the 2011 ICFF, a reclining chair in machine yellow with red accents and black neoprene upholstery. The designers explain that Bulldozer Lounge represents “a new visual language characterized by bold industrially produced elements connected in innovative ways.”
At the moment, Bulldozer Lounge is a prototype. Eventually, the red pieces will allow the chair to be adjustable. Constructed of aluminum composite, the inventive chair by Mark and Efe intensifies “human imagination and creativity” instead of relying on nature for inspiration. The hand-wrought and crafted piece made in a limited edition, using far fewer resources than factory made counterparts, is clearly intended to be treasured. Bulldozer Lounge celebrates manmade ingenuity.
About the Designers: Begun in 2007, Mark and Efe is a creative collaboration between industrial designers Mark Goetz and Efe Buluc, both graduates of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. The two originally began collaborating in 1997 when they co-founded the renowned conceptual design group to22. Mark and Efe launched their first production piece with the introduction of Bulldozer Lounge at the 2011 ICFF.
