The Rikyu Jubako Table by Ted Boerner
by Ted Boerner is a tiered table with cutout and slots that recall the meaning of the word Jubako. A Jubako box is a Japanese box for holding food, commonly known as a bento box. The lunch box concept has been around for centuries in Japan, which is both a style of food service and an art form.
The Rikyu Jubako Table. Designed by Ted Boerner.
Ted Boerner’s Rikyu Jubako table has elements of the Jubako box, with its stacked appearance and compartmentalized openeings. The exterior of the table is lacquered much like a traditional Jubako box, although without the extravagant decoration. Boerner has chosen 5 shades of neutral gray that step with the tiers of the box. The resulting table has a modern, measured feel with an element of discovery. The interior table top has a wood veneer that can be chosen by the purchaser.
The Rikyu Jubako table is designed by Ted Boerner and manufactured by Conde House. In an effort to create sustainable products, Conde House has been planting oak trees on their own land in Japan since 2000. The lumber is used as a resource furniture material.
