The 2011 LC7 Outdoor Chair by Cassina
Back in 1927 the original drawings of the LC7 chair were first sketched out by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. It’s eventual release came from Cassina in 1978. A year after the originals were drawn, the first images of the LC7 Outdoor chair were created. 2011 marked the release of the second, outdoor version, of the Cassina LC7 at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
LC7 Outdoor. Designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. Manufactured by Cassina.
A Durable Steel Frame Designed for Outdoor Furnishings Differentiates the LC7 Outdoor Chair from the Original LC7, by Cassina.
The two LC7 chairs appear to be identical, but the LC7 Outdoor is an armchair made entirely from polished AISI 304 stainless steel and has a pre-treated back and internal structure made out of pre-treated steel. This steel is then electroplated and finished in matte black. An additional feature to the 2011 LC7 Outdoor are the elemental black PVC foot ends that ensure maximum durability and reliability in any all weather conditions.
The cushion insert is made from a water-draining polyurethane that is water-repellant that has been developed to prevent any stagnation in bacteria, water, mold, etc. The fabric upholstery that covers the cushions is a very specific, high tenacity polyester yarn that is PVC-coated and available in five colors.
Strong by the nature of the materials employed – but otherwise designed as a delicate, cushioned and poised seat – the LC7 Outdoor carries a great deal of history inside its new 2011 version that has been made to withstand weather and further development for years and years.
About the Designer/Manufacturer (linked): Cassina works industrially in the contemporary furnishing sector. It produces chairs, tables, armchairs, beds, and furniture in general with a particular flair for upholstered items and work in wood, leather and other top-quality materials. In 2004 the Cassina Masters collection was enriched by the addition of another protagonist, Charlotte Perriand (1903 – 1999), who worked in collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, and without whom, perhaps, the chaise-longue, the siège tournant and fauteuil grand confort that Cassina has been producing for forty years would never have come about.
