Table B Earns Grade A: Red Dot Best of the Best 2011
It was recently announced that Table B earned the Red Dot Award Best of the Best 2011. Designed by German standout Konstantin Grcic for Barcelona Design (BD for short), Table B is part of Grcic’s Extrusions Collection. With three leg versions for the same top and four size options, Table B offers lots of choices in a streamlined table with interesting angles.

Extruded Aluminum Table
Table B features an extruded aluminum top with anodized polished silver or matte black, and its upper surface can be finished with natural oak sheet. The three leg options change the look of Table B dramatically: architectural concrete gray or black, stainless steel rod, or natural oak legs take Table B from blocky to sleek to angular. Konstantin Grcic designed the table after being inspired by various classic BD objects such as the Hypóstila shelf unit, which has been in production since 1979.
The idea behind Table B is to highlight simplicity, albeit a technologically advanced simplicity. The extruded aluminum tabletop maintains a “minimal profile,” though it accomplishes this via hard work: “Its apparent simplicity hides a complex technical development in which senior engineers have been involved. In counterpoint, the production also includes several manual processes.”
About the Manufacturer: Barcelona Design (BD) was started in 1972 by a group of illustrious architects and designers: Pep Bonet, Lluis Clotet, Cristian Cirici, Mireia Riera, and Oscar Tusquets. BD employs talented designers the world over in order to remain at the cutting edge of Spanish and international design. Some of their more famous designers of the past include Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dalí; presently, BD features the work of Konstantin Grcic and Ross Lovegrove, among others.
