Forest by Arik Levy for Bernhardt Design
Recently exhibited at NeoCon 2011, Forest is a barstool designed by the multi-disciplinary artist Arik Levy, who works in mediums as varied as photography, sculpture, film, and furniture. Born in Israel and transplanted to Europe, Levy is recognized for his furniture design for global companies, although he claims that “the world is about people, not tables and chairs.” Perhaps he is successful because he considers the people for which the furniture is intended—and that may contribute to his unique and beautiful products.

Sculptural Steel Stools
Manufactured by Bernhardt Design, Forest is available in various seat heights. The stool also offers options in regards to seat material: it comes with an upholstered or wooden seat. In bright upholstery, Forest makes a great seat for bars and restaurants. With the more subtle wood seat, these barstools are serious enough for any corporate office. Both showcase Levy’s sculptural base, which is constructed of chrome-plated steel. The design is a geometric interpretation of trees, an abstraction of the organic. The emphasis on form can be seen in Levy’s sculptures, which highlight lineation and faceting.
