The Oblique Shelf by Marcel Wanders for Moooi

A couple of years ago, while working for an architecture and design magazine, I was given an assignment: to pick out the coolest looking shelf to display the hottest design publications on the market. Since hindsight is 20/20, I sought the coolest shelf I could find today given my years of digging through design by the greats.  What I came up with was a simple, solid display shelf by Marcel Wanders that was named Oblique.

With a Slant Toward Great Design, the Oblique by Marcel Wanders for Moooi Displays the Design Publications You Adore

“Make this mood board of your lifestyle,” says the product information on the Moooi website of the leaning shelf. “Display all your favorite publications, company magazines, booklets, guides or photos in the chic-est way possible.”

The Oblique shelf is constructed out of solid oak wood and comes in two different sizes. The smaller of the two has five shelves and measures 82.7″H x 41.3″W x 2.4″D. The larger, at 112.6″H x 41.3″W x 2.4″D, has seven shelves. In addition to choosing the size that fits your space, the shelf comes in four lacquers (with visible wood structure exposed): natural lacquer, white wash, wenge, or black.

As part of the Moooi Storage Collection, the Oblique takes up minimal space against the wall while providing the home or office with a display case that reflects your great taste in design (and shows off the monthly subscription that keeps you on top of the game).

About the Manufacturer: The venture we know as Moooi was founded in 2001 by Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers. Named after their native Dutch word for beautiful – the third ‘o’ in the brand name stands for an extra value in terms of beauty & uniqueness. The core strengths of both men continue to complement each other perfectly; Marcel, the obstinate, passionate designer with a nose for business, and Casper, the driven marketeer with a keen eye for design. Constantly pushing the boundaries, this playful design duo has created everything from furniture to lighting and accessories.
