At NeoCon 2011: The Chateau Sconce by Doyle Crosby for Boyd Lighting
We’re taking a bit of an historical tour this week here at 3rings, at least as concerns stainless steel or brushed nickel finishes with just a touch of exotic flair. Yesterday, the Charlotte collection of faucets by Brizo re-acquainted us with Art Deco; today, Doyle Crosby’s Chateau Sconce for Boyd Lighting hearkens back to fairy tale France.

Evoke an Elegant Historical Ambiance with the Chateau Sconce
Crosby’s Chateau Sconce is just that—an ornate fixture with a slightly sinister edge that looks as if it might adorn the massive stone portico of the Beast’s castle. But that mise en scene could apply to any one of Grimm’s multifarious tales, each one marked by an atmosphere of foreboding and a gathering sense of doom.
If, however, you don’t have much of a taste for the Gothic, that shouldn’t steer you away. To the contrary, the Chateau Sconce is a thoroughly updated contemporary lightpiece that only mimics the look of a brightly-burning torchiere.
The Chateau Sconce’s singular innovation is a hidden LED module tucked into the upper reaches of the shade. This illuminates the rock crystal or copper detail that simulates the sconce’s flame, creating the quite convincing illusion that the light actually emanates from this ostensibly burning wick.
Finishes for the Chateau Sconce include Silver Fog, Matte White, Cinnamon Bronze, and Black Granite. Dimensions are 29 ¼ in. high x 9 ¾ in. wide with an 11 inch projection out from the wall.

About the Manufacturer: In operation since 1921, Boyd Lighting is going on a good century of conceiving of and designing elegant fixtures for historic buildings and notable landmarks, including the San Francisco Opera House, the Orpheum Theater, and the Squaw Valley Lodge (for the 1960 Olympics). When Boyd isn’t illuminating the environs of architectural wonders, they create “beautiful, distinctive, commercially flawless products that satisfy the focused design and illumination needs of the high-end crossover commercial and residential lighting markets.”
