The Topo Collection by Clayhaus Ceramics is part of a decorative relief series that explores three dimensional organic forms at macro and micro scales. Like a pointillism painting, upclose the patterns and colors mean one thing, and ten steps back a whole new story is told. Inspired by the modern movement and the Bauhaus, Clayhaus Ceramics is looking at ceramic design from a sustainable and modern perspective.

All of Clayhaus Ceramics products have a clean modern feeling that is designed fit many aesthetics. The Topo Collection is like an Escher-redux, complicated geometric patterns that have thankfully been reduced to an off-white ceramic impression for a new take on classic modernism. Each Clayhaus Ceramic is handmade to order in their Oregon studio.

The studio is run with 100% renewable energy, and other sustainable efforts are made whenever possible. The crackle glazes contain 50% post-consumer recycled bottle glass and every product is made with lead-free materials. Even the shipping cartons and packing materials are made of recycled corrugated paper and cornstarch “peanuts”. Excess clay and glaze are reused and recycled, and seconds and usable broken tiles are donated to local schools’ art programs.

About the Company: Portland-based Clayhaus Ceramics is a newish company founded by the husband and wife team of Jason and Megan Coleman. Jason is the artist and craftsman, while Megan handles sales, customer service and other business related issues. Jason is the son of renowned ceramicists Tom and Elaine Coleman—true leaders in the ceramics arts movement of the 1960s – 1970s.
