NeoCon Preview: Airtouch Height-Adjustable Desks by Details
As a chiropractor/physical therapist friend recently reminded me (somewhat too cheerfully, albeit), “lack of motion equals death.” He was referring to the phenomenon called “creep,” whereby stationary ligaments loose their elasticity and eventually become incapable of the resiliency needed to support active, dynamic motion. Someone at Steelcase’s Details subsidiary must be clued into this unfortunate bodily consequence as well, for the new Airtouch series of height-adjustable work surfaces is specifically geared to make us less sedentary at work.
Airtouch Height-Adjustable Desk. Manufactured by Details.
With Airtouch, Changing Work Surface Height is a Breeze
As Details says, “height-adjustable desks are like gym memberships. They’re only healthy if we use them.” This doubtless refers to the complications that frequently ensue when attempting to change from standing to sitting positions. Thankfully, all that ends with Airtouch.
The key to the Airtouch difference is Details’ work surface weight load adjustment gauge. This handy feature allows you to set raising and lowering resistance to work with your desk’s weight, rather than against it. The result is simple, single-touch adjustment without concern for the surface’s contents: “Airtouch is ideal for providing workers the flexibility to adapt work surface height to their needs at a moment’s notice. Whether it’s in a freestanding or panel-based work environment, Airtouch can be used seated one minute, then raised to create a standing posture the next.”
Airtouch adjusts from 26 to 43 inches in any increment. The load-bearing capacity for each table (including the work surface) is 150 lbs. Airtouch’s desk top is always a pristine white, but the base is available in chrome, black, platinum metallic, or midnight metallic. The desk’s adjustable mechanism requires no electrical components, so it can be used in any setting and it’s easy to re-locate.
