“We wanted a backrest that is inviting to the touch,” says studio juju‘s Timo Wong and Priscilla Lu of Bambi. “We kept in mind the texture of the wood and its construction, creating a continuity of the handle to its legs.” Speaking of continuous motion, the rise in popularity this chair’s ever-so-slight design has landed it a spot on the W Hotels Designers of the Future Award this year.

Named one of the W Hotels Designers of the Future for 2011, studio juju and their Bambi Chair Take Center Stage

The soft, upholstered seat done in a high quality fabric compliments the handmade warmth of the beech wood back and legs. Upon first glance of the Bambi, the smooth finish of the wood and components is hidden by the burgeoning fabric seat. But one step closer to the studio juju chair and sheer admiration floods in: the paperclip backrest was designed for ease of carrying use without taking shortcuts that jeopardize its integrity.

Other W Hotels Designers of the Future Awards winners include Asif Khan and Mischer’Traxler, among others from other categories. These three design teams were then commissioned to create brand new products that will be shown at Design Miami/ Basel, Switzerland.

Robust in nature with a solid beech and fabric construction, the Bambi chair’s rare form with simple highlights keeps the idea of a seating unit one that embraces modularity while standing the test of time.
