The Bombe Pendant Lamp by Yellow Goat Design
Though yellow is not among my favorite colors, I can certainly espy the occasional application wherein it works quite well: the buttery interior of Meirav Barzilay’s Papela Lampshade, for example, or the shimmering exterior of the sunny Genesi Refrigerator. Goats, on the other hand, have a special place in my animal lover’s heart. Perhaps it’s because they exude personality, or they have an uncanny intestinal fortitude, or—at least in their mountainous incarnation—they can scale rocky massifs like nobody’s business. Suffice it to say that the auspicious duo of “yellow” and “goat” works in regards to Australia’s Yellow Goat Design. The company has the unconventional aesthetic and surpassing whimsy of a herd of yellow goats. As luck would have it, however, the lovely Bombe Pendant Lamp happens to be resplendently red.

Bombe’s Compelling Constellation of Fiery Light
Red is my favorite color, so I’m quite partial to Yellow Goat’s Bombe. I’m also a devotee of synchrony, so I rather admire the double globe effect of the piece’s bulb and shade. In fact, I believe the best things come in threes, and though Bombe’s ostensible two-piece assembly might seem to disqualify it from that appraisal, the glass globe actually houses an energy-efficient CFL, which gives Bombe de-facto membership in this club of handsome threesomes. These qualities certainly recommend this imaginative miniature explosion of light, but the show-stopper is Bombe’s bright red acrylic shade. Resembling a paper sculpture created by the likes of a cheery incarnation of Edward Scissorhands, the shade’s intricate undulations are owed to the high durability and uniform consistency of acrylic, which material captures the effect of this Bombe’s perpetual detonation. Says Yellow Goat, “I wonder if this is what it looks like inside an exploding firework in the split second before it bursts into the night sky? Could be.”
About the Manufacturer: Jerzy Lesko, Design Director for Australia’s Yellow Goat Design, embraces the unconventional. The company was founded in 1997 when Lesko “designed and built a small table lamp for his artist’s studio.” Yellow Goat’s genesis was thus the creative desire to shine some literal light on the creative process. The exchange between creative concept and pragmatic production has continued ever since. Yellow Goat focuses on lighting—their lighting products live across the globe, from Australia to New Zealand, Dubai to Kuwait, China to the U.S.A. But the company outfits baths as well. Check out their lovely line of luxurious tubs, each with a unique international flair: moulin, keiko, and edgy.
