After Matisse Comes Sonya Winner: A Colorful Rug Design
Bright shades of tissue paper that I used to paper maché together onto piñatas during art class. This was a memory that leaped into my vision as soon as the After Matisse rug by Sonya Winner appeared within my computer monitor.

Using 26 Different Colors to Create the Fanned Rug, After Matisse, Designer Sonya Winner Wowed Tent London
Joining the rug crowd in an odd shape with saturated hues and blended sections, there is no chance a piece like the After Matisse can really go out of style. After all, it was inspired by the artist Henri Matisee, of course, whose works were often made using paper cutouts. With it’s shape jagged yet refined, the rug takes on a more fine art side to flooring than it does utilitarian or functional.
The collage of 26 colors “replicates the effect of transparent colors mixed together”, said the designer of the rug whose tufts range between five different heights to accomplish the sculptural identity that has been attached to this work of New Zealand wool.
Appearing at Tent London as one of the many ground-breaking designs that span all mediums imaginable, the After Matisse made the annual event one that most will never mistake for another designer other than Sonya Winner – for obvious award-winning reasons.
Sonya Winner was an instant success after releasing her first rug in 2006 entitled Kaleidoscope. From then til now, her rugs have made a statement. Her Hampstead studio is best known for her very Matisse-like qualities that infuse the blending of bright colors together while creating works of art made from high quality materials that will last forever.
