TRON Designs Corian® for the 2011 Salone Internazionale del Mobile
At the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan each year, the designers, manufacturers, and everyone in between work long hours to preparation for what will hopefully shock, amaze, and make it onto the circuit of blogs as the new buzz word in design. This year, DuPont® has partnered with Disney to create their showroom, calling it “TRON Designs Corian“.
Dubont’s “TRON Designs Corian”.
TRON Designs Corian Will Use Futuristic Italian Design and the Solid Surfaces of DuPont To Play With Reality at the 2011 Salone Internazionale del Mobile
It will be an exhibition of solutions for what their calling the ‘Safe House’. Using the imaginations of several designers as well as the solid surface material – entitled Corian® – that ranks high up on DuPont’s docket, the spaces will include: bathroom/wellness, living, bedroom, outdoor, home theatre, and kitchen/dining areas. Although TRON himself will not be making an appearance at the show, nor will his mold-able spaces apparently, the renderings shown here suggest that the designers put an effort into making it super high tech.
Most of the designers come out of Italy, and to kick it off, Studio Aquilialberg, consisting of Laura Aquili and Ergian Alberg, worked with the kitchen superpower Ernestomeda for the kitchen/dining area. They’ve used an electroluminescent light film on the island workspace in partnership with a company by the name of Light Tape. For the bedroom space, Italian designer Ilaria Marelli designed ‘capo d’opera’, or masterpiece, with the use of Corian layers that appear almost topographical.
The other areas of the ‘Safe House’ exhibition for Salone 2011 will use the same futuristic design and include designs by Marco Piva Architectural and Design Studio, Giulio Cappellini with the TRON armchair design by Dror Benshetrit, Lago, Shai Akram, Jordi Canudas, Andrew Haythronthwaite, TAO Esterno, and Studio Ito Design.
