The Eco Shelf Zenstyle and The Natural Pot Cool and Reuse

You know the feeling… you’re walking down the street on a hot summer day and splash, you’ve been hit with water by an unseen source and are most likely disgusted by it. Anyone living in a warm climate where window AC units are popular has been dripped on by condensation. While air conditioning units are not supposed to drip water on passerbys or surrounding surfaces, a clogged condensation line can quickly lead to drips. Instead of watering unsuspecting pedestrians or your newly painted deck, Seung-Hyun Yoon, Seol-hee Son & Jo Chal-youn have invented a more sustainable solution.

The Eco Shelf Zenstyle and Natural Pot are two creations that capture excess water discharged from the air conditioner and use it to water plants. The Eco Shelf Zenstyle is a slim-lined modern shelf that hangs effortlessly off the wall to hold books, a tea pot and a potted plant. The quirky twist is that the potted plant is integral to the shelf design which also contains a small AC unit. The Natural Pot uses a similar technique with a hidden AC that tips to expose the air vents.

The Cavity Flower Pot by Merve Sarisin comes to mind for its desire to recycle unwanted water. Even more technical than the Eco Shelf is Manon LeBlanc’s Ambient Lamp which is powered by water. Water preservation is an important sustainable technique, especially in urban centers where clean water is scarce. I would like to know more about the Eco Shelf and Natural Pot’s material makeup, but as a water harvesting concept and design, they are very cool.
