Silk Road Weaves Loopy collection is the creative outlet of Barbara Jacobs, a colorist and longtime color consultant for architecture, interiors and surface designs. Silk Road Weaves rugs are made by weavers in Nepal, who produce hand-knotted designs with the finest Himalayan wool and Chinese silk in myriad vibrant and subtle colors. The rugs include another indigenous material, Himalayan Ollo, which comes from the Giant Himalayan Nettle, a plant that has stem fibers which can be spun into yarn. My vision of a Giant Himalayan Nettle was something closer to a Yettie, but a rug made from Yettie would definitely give me nightmares. The Nettle fibers add an interesting color and textural variation to these unusual rugs. All of the Loopy Collection rugs are made of sustainable materials and use no chemical wash process.

Silk Road Weave is a RUGMARK member which guarantees that no child labor is used in any of their products. Each rugs carries a Goodweave label to further certify their commitment to no child labor. The company that weaves Silk Road Weaves rugs is owned by one of the founders of Rugmark, who in 1997 received an award of distinction from MAHR (Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights). The award honored her work for fighting against child labor in the carpet industry and for running her company with social philosophies and business practices that include many employee benefits as part of their company structure.
