Kitmen Keung’s Dual Cut Foam for Sixinch
In the fine tradition of Russian dolls everywhere, and Dripta Roy’s marvelous nesting furnishing called Magic, comes Kitmen Keung’s Dual Cut Foam for Belgian firm Sixinch. This piece is only philosophically compatible with Magic, however, as the former employed a curvy silhouette of laminated wood to create four chairs in one, while the latter is all hard angles and soft, sumptuous foam. Actually, though it is certain that Dual Cut is predominately rectilinear, The piece’s subtle curves render its unassailable personality. Excised from a single raw rectangular foam block with a precisely executed L-shaped cut, it is, nevertheless, Dual Cut’s rounded corners that realize its high functionality.

A Convertible, Portable, and Hip Chair/Chaise
The piece’s most prominent angles are, respectively, six and 23 degrees, both fine numbers for ergonomic excellence. Dual Cut’s clever shape facilitates not only these nice numbers, but also the five or so protean incarnations created by moving the two pieces around: easy chair, straight back chair with low table, chaise lounge, nightstand, and ottoman. In addition to its versatility, the piece’s aesthetic has contemporary appeal—its clean lines and zero frills fit right in with a restrained color palette of light grey and charcoal. Sixinch’s exclusive three layer coating system makes Dual Cut suitable for indoor or outdoor use, and its easy stackability makes it a snap to negotiate between the two environments.
About the Manufacturer: Belgian firm Sixinch has the unlikely lineage of a shared passion for an even unlikelier material: coated foam. Principals Pieter Jamart and Michel Sels crossed paths in 2003, and after exchanging anecdotes about their love for all manner of high density polyurethane, together they founded Sixinch. The company offers a broad spectrum of products in all materials but specializes in coated foam. Sixinch creates all foam products in their own factories, and they can handle any bespoke project you dream up: from furniture to room-sized installations. They offer four customized coating options suited to the nature of the piece, and they can cut foam to any dimension and shape, then coat it in any glorious flourish of RAL, PANTONE, or NCS color.
