Belgian Horse: Pegasus JR-6880 by Jori
Pegasus is the name of the fantastical flying horse from Greek mythology. A glorious combination of solidity and lightness, Pegasus represents an iconic vision of the beauty of contradiction. Belgian leather seating company JORI has taken the concept of the soaring creature and translated it into a “trendy chair” that “is the most striking and surprising newcomer in Cologne.” Presented at IMM in January 2011, the Pegasus JR-6880 is designed by Jean-Pierre Audebert as a comfortable lounge chair that offers a fanciful array of variations.

Asymmetrical Leather Seating
Pegasus JR-6880 is defined by its back, which can be asymmetrical or straight, high or low. The leather chair also comes in “a luxurious, large version which brings sitting comfort and exclusive effect to a unique culmination.” The chair can be made even more dramatic when it’s covered in different fabrics, since the back/seat and inside/outside upholstery can be different. Pegasus includes a matching cushion in order to ensure the most seating comfort and back support.
Part Oriental fan, part clamshell, the circular shape of the Pegasus JR-6880 cocoons the human body within its supple walls. One of the Belgian company’s many “high-class, leather, contemporary seating units,” Pegasus JR-6880 combines comfort with a flight of fancy. The sectioned back mimics sun-rays (the filters of light that the Pegasus horse traditionally flew through), while the round bottom resembles a button or a bottle stopper—perhaps the top of a magical bottle stopping up a seating genie!
