The Heroic Carbon Desk by Martin Szekely for Galerie Kreo
This holiday season I’d like to send a huge thank you out to the the designer Martin Szekely for relieving any pent up gift giving, mall-shopping fried anxiety with the straightforward approach of his Heroic Carbon Desk by Galerie Kreo. It looks lovely and is built to last forever out of carbon fiber, even though it’s quantity isn’t.

A Geometric Carbon Desk Design by Martin Szekely for the Parisian Kreo Gallery Stands Alone for 2010
A limited edition desk for now, the Heroic Carbon Desk was shown at the 63rd exhibition at the Parisian Kreo gallery along with pieces designed by Pierre Charpin, Naoto Fukasawa, Ettore Sottsass, and Maarten Van Severn. Although the pieces were a variety of tables and desks primarily, they rose to the same occasion using the same featured height of 75 cm, which happened to also title the exhibition.
As was also stated about the exhibition this fall, each design was a reflection of the designers themselves. All things considered, this high performance desk says something definite to me about Martin Szekely: he values quality and does not feel it necessary to shroud his work in color for the design to work. His Heroic Carbon Desk was designed this year, in 2010, and uses a technical, geometric frame and ultra thin lines due to its material’s foundation.
Pens may find their organized home in (or on) the open cube shape in the top corner of the desk while papers can spread out in a relaxed or orderly fashion across the expansive of the flat desktop. Since most paper tends to be light colored, the contrast in background with it being black is useful, drawing your focus right into duties at hand.
Whether you decorate the rest of your space in a design as simple and functional as the Heroic Carbon Desk or decide to bring in bright colors to liven up the surrounding area of the room, this Martin Szekely piece is a highly-evolved furnishing that will be remembered as one of the highlights from 2010.
