Agape and Urquiola Team Up for the Pear 2 line of Sanitary Ware
As if she just loved the sound of “2010” and wanted to get in one more product before the year was done, the prolific Patricia Urquiola has once again teamed with Italian manufacturer Agape to offer the Pear 2 line of sanitary ware. If the name of that particular fruit doesn’t resonate in your mental A&D files, I’d invite you to look about two years back to when Urquiola and Agape first collaborated on the Pear line of tubs, bidets, WCs, and basins (check out my favorite, a sculptural and shallow countertop number that plays with perspective). As a follow-up to the first line, Pear 2 begins where Pear the first left off: “picking up the unmistakable design of the Pear models already in production, with an even more slender form.”

A WC and Bidet with a Two-Tone Tint
Urquiola’s redux thus follows the present zeitgeist for ever-slimmer forms, a choice that, when it comes to bathroom design, suggests that going Euro is not only easy on the eyes, but easy on precious floor space as well. The wall-mounted Pear 2 WC and bidet are designed for easy co-habitation, such do they resemble one another. Their identical pear-shaped profile makes for an appealing mise en scene, especially for retentive types who yearn for symmetry and balance.
But the space savvy design doesn’t mean they’re insensitive of the assorted anomalies and permutations of human anatomy. The slimming-shape belies the spacious volume. So, yes, even those—especially those—with pear-shaped posteriors are easily accommodated. Given the smart design and sculptural appeal of Pear 2, the aesthetic flourish of the two-tone option is just one more incentive to invest in yet another stylish and pragmatic piece by Urquiola.
