Superarchimoon Outdoor Combines Starck, Flos, and Dedon
Inside, outside—Philippe Starck is everywhere. I half expect him to pop out from beneath my hedges when I walk to my mailbox! In the mornings, before I’ve had my coffee (admittedly, a time when my grasp on reality is compromised), I wonder if he isn’t hiding in my cupboards, lost amidst my array of cereals. And like the designer, lighting firm Flos is invading my world as well—crashing through my walls and lighting up my landscaping (see Wall Piercing and Belvedere). Add Dedon to this mix and you’ve got a powerful trio: the designer, the lighting firm, and the wicker people (sounds like a conspiracy in the making).

Oversized Outdoor Swing Lamp
Their resulting collection, entitled Play, combines interesting proportion, whimsical material, and cascading light. Of the items in Play, I like Superarchimoon Outdoor best: a swing arm lamp magnified to mammoth size. The width weighs in at 242 cm, which translates to 95 inches—that’s close to eight feet. The height too is larger than life: 214 cm (84 inches, AKA seven feet). The Superarchimoon lamp comes in color combinations sure to complement anyone’s outdoor living spaces: chalk and carbon, chalk and terracotta, terracotta and stone, and platinum and titanium. Dedon points out that Starck is both ubiquitous and practical, calling him an “indefatigable designer” who “has maintained for years that an object has to be good before it can be beautiful.” Superarchimoon Outdoor is good, beautiful, and it’ll light up your life—thanks to a collaboration between Philippe Starck, Flos, and Dedon. It’s a giant lamp from design giants.
