I’m looking at the landing page for the Jardan site and metaphorically scratching my head as I try to place the locale of this perfectly pleasant composition. A pair of complementary-colored dining chairs sits atop the wonderfully weathered planks of a garden deck—the foreground an endless expanse of grassy green, the horizon a hazy nimbus of boundless blue. The image is welcoming and foreign at once, which can only place it in Australia, land of huge horizontal vistas and summer in winter. In Melbourne right now, as a matter of fact, it’s 61 degrees at 12:30 am, with a high forecast for 75. No wonder Manufacturer Jardan is able to parlay the Australian reputation for laissez faire into a charming design aesthetic. Pieces like the Iko Table convey a sense of calm and relaxation that might just be inextricably tied to the “islander lifestyle.”

Light and Lively in Wood and Marble

Nick Garnham’s design for this series of dining, low, and side tables is all about the purity of natural materials, the exquisite style of hand-craftsmanship. Constructed of American oak and inspired by the solidity and rectilinear look of the complementary Iko Iko chairs, they exhibit a simple criss-cross pattern that creates visual interest while balancing out the mesmerizing circle of the marble top.
