Attractive Utility: The New Splash Coat Rack by Blu Dot
As a small city girl visiting my grandparents’ rural farm, I’d pluck cattail from the slough in the horse pasture behind my grandparents’ house. In the same era, I discovered Slow Pokes suckers. A rare thought for a couple decades later, I sweetly revisited each at first glance of the latest Splash Coat Rack from Blu Dot.

A Modern Coat Rack in Steel and Solid Walnut
An artist’s dream, the four utilitarian, flat-edged spikes of the Splash Coat Rack demand no less than to be noticed and recalled when remembering your antique camera tripod or maybe your trendy 9th grade hair glued look. Poised at 65″ tall with a 20″ base at its thickest, the Blu Dot designers opt for two different dual-color combinations: bright blue or grey powder-coated steel with solid walnut wood. By using the walnut for the stand, the Splash gives off that warm and inviting feel a coat rack should always retain. In the same way that the wood draws you in, the vivid shades of powder-coated steel add a dash (or a splash, perhaps) of color to your space.
Use it in the office, the modern lobby, next to your home’s front door, or even in your bedroom. Regardless of its landing, Blu Dot claims their new Splash Coat Rack is “ready to relieve you of jackets, hats, scarves and bags in style” before adding a dash of their witty charm through imagery, saying “Dress it up or keep it naked. Either way it remains easy on the eyes. Who says utility can’t be attractive?” Indeed, Blu Dot, we love your ability to challenge the norm. Now it’s my turn to ponder: Did you really design the Splash Coat Rack to mock the fact that I have not seen a Slow Poke since the early 90s?
