Wildspirit’s Moon Lounger by Gerd Couckhuyt
We are back in Happy land! Some time ago, both Joseph Starr and I wrote about products designed by the Belgian company Wildspirit, which uses its proceeds (in part) to satisfy the needs and desires of an adorable (and spoiled) Springer Spaniel named Happy. Despite our dog-loving proclivities, we aren't blind to good design. Wildspirit's one-of-a-kind pieces, constructed mostly of wood and leather, "can be integrated easily in multifarious interiors" (which reminds me of nefarious interiors, an ideal choice should we be designing for or James Bond villains). Erik Jansen's Spring Stool and Samuel Chan's Motley Crew captured our attention with their simple and whimsical manipulation of wood, and now Gerd Couckhuyt's Moon Lounger is presenting that pair with serious competition.

Combining both of Wildspirit's preferred materials, Moon Lounger is a low lounge chair "with a blink to the avant-garde design of Charles Eames." With its bright leather upholstery and its dark wood frame, Moon Lounger is like Saturn in a deep dark galactic universe. The curve of the legs gives the chair various profiles depending on one's point of view. Always seductive, the base "provides a soft feminine touch" with its graceful parabolic arcs. All of Moon Lounger's shapes recall space: the ovals and ellipticals of the frame and cushions put me in mind of orbit trajectories and spinning planets.
