Like a quilted marshmallow with a seat to nuzzle into, the Redondo collection by Patricia Urquiola is the latest and greatest by Moroso. No corners, no heavy shell and no sharp edges for the tired, post-work eyes to take in – in essence, the sofa and two armchairs are said to “evoke an almost ‘protective’ intimacy”.

Intimate vibe or lively gathering, the Redondo’s soft fabric can be used as is – with no additional cushions or throws – coating the inside and outside of the nested, heavily-cushioned pieces. For it’s first center stage appearance, the Redondo collection appeared at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010 in Milano.

Since 2001, Urquiola has shared her designs in the fields of product design, display, and architecture with top manufacturers and firms around the world. Never afraid of crossing back and forth between modern and organic styles – or between languages and cultures – Urquiola manages to create warmth, depth, and a natural fit whether she’s tackling a bathtub design by AXOR or beach-inspired tiled tables by Mutina.

On the other hand, her partner in the Redondo collection – Moroso – has been designing sofas, armchairs and other accessories since 1952. Besides partnering with Urquiola, they’ve worked alongside other designers of similar ingenuity: Ron Arad, Carlo Colombo, Enrico Franzolini, Marc Newson and Toshiyuki Kita. They were also the first producer of upholstered furniture in Italy to receive the ISO 9000 certification for firm management and the ISO 9001 certification for design, production and customer service.

In other words, responsibility in the intention and their processes shine through the gorgeous design of Redondo, adding to Urquiola’s aesthetics with a divine mission to work in unison with the world around us.
