Factory Friday: The Bend Dish by Maya Khaira
According to architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, we should design houses that fit within the vernacular of our surroundings. They work together with the birds, politely adorn the trees aside them, and depending on the location, embrace the style and culture of the community as a whole. Whether you’ve got the prime locale of a city studio or tackle the mortgage of a outskirts paradise, one thing is for sure: if you’ve got a four-legged friend, their happiness is as important as your own. Born out of love for her little Lab mix named Roxie, the Bend Dish is one of Style Factory’s latest editions by Maya Khaira.
Bend Dish. Designed by Maya Khaira.
Under the company name of Roxiedoggie, Khaira has designed the Little Bend Bowl as a single dish and the Big Bend Bowl as a double. Each of the dishes are made using a bent maple or zebrawood with a waterproof (slobber-proof) finish. Her Minneapolis-based design practice creates modern products for the urban dog with a solid BFA from the presitigious Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
As a fellow dog lover and fan of modern design, I can honestly say I’ve scoffed at overdone doggie sweaters and pimped carriers. But Roxiedoggie is different. The Little and Big Bend Bowls by Roxiedoggie intertwines your desire for snazzy interiors with your dog’s need for simple ergonomics. My favorite part of Maya Khaira’s website was what I think she’d call her philosophy, sweetly saying, “At Roxiedoggie everything is made with love, because we heart dogs, and we heart design.”
If your pet needs a design revamp, vote here for the Big and Little Bend Bowls to go into production!
