Chill Out on the Oi Side
Most often when I profile design from Spain, it seems to involve a product from the Northeastern region of Cataluña or, more specifically, the much-beloved city of Barcelona, point of origin for 3rings favorites including Bram Ganeen's Gaudà Stool and Jamie Hayon's LOUNGER. But there are more shades in Spain than the brilliance of Barcelona. There's the splendor of Salamanca, the zest of Zaragoza, and the magnificence of Murcia. This city just a stone's throw from Spain's southeastern coast is midway between Valencia (famed for its paella) and Murcia (birthplace of Picasso). So what to say of a city flanked by a delicacy of shellfish and rice on one side and a preeminent modern painter on the other? That it boasts some of the best bridges in the country; that it's renowned for its Holy Week parade; and that its mild climes require the presence of some durable and stylish outdoor furniture.
Chill Oi collection. Designed by Oi Side.
That last niche has been filled recently by manufacturer Oi Side: "the new furniture brand, for indoors and outdoors, with a structurally simple and versatile advanced design. More than a decade of work has provided us with a particular view expressed, embodied in different collections." The view expressed in the Chill Oi line is slim, sleek, and stylish. And elegant, too, I might add. Polished aluminum joins forces with sailing leather cushions to create a line of chairs, chaise lounges, stools, and high and low tables that will withstand the elements as surely as white canvas billows in the breeze. But given the climatological constraints of Murcia (more than 300 days of sun a year, daytime highs in the sixties during the winter), harsh glare is a more likely foe than wind or rain. In either case, Chill Oi will repel whatever mother nature throws at it while showing off your sun-tanned retinue to excellent effect. For pool-side gatherings, backyard bbq's, or early fall eves on a shady veranda, Chill Oi fits the bill. Get out and get some before those winter blahs settle in.
