Although home construction around the globe seems to have slowed in the past couple of years, Italian construction seems to be just about the same as it was 500 years ago. Instead of knowing what it would be like to build quickly – in wood, brick, or simply in speed between coffee breaks – Italy opts for a sloth-like building permit system and lots of concrete.

Designer Dante Bonuccelli may appreciate his home country’s reputation for creating homes that will last, but he sure took his furniture creations to a new level with the X2 collection for Zoom by Mobimex. In particular, the X2 conference table fully understands the importance of balancing weight distribution and functionality with a sleek appearance. Clearly, the evolution of architecture and design in a country known for its Milanese modern kitchen designs and Roman ruins has played some part in the designer’s eye for details and overall effect.

As anyone from the architecture and design field knows, the combination of wood and metal is not new, and quite frankly, its simple use together is nothing spectacular. But with Bonuccelli’s choice of materials – reminiscent of Italians’ rich history using only the finest – the structural support of the X2 conference table comes with cast steel diagonal brackets and feet that blend into thedark, solid wood that chisels its effortlessly chic tabletop and lean, rounded legs. The combination doesn’t appear industrial, cold, or like a Malm bed frame – instead, it feels inherently stylish, durable and even warm.

The legs come in either the same wood as the table top, in a constrasting wood, or in a black-stained ashwood. Since cast steel joints and their varied finishes wouldn’t dare be left out, they also come in a few different colors.

According to the manufacturer, you can choose the size of the table to fit your office space up to a maximum length of 280 cm (110 inches) and a width of 110 cm (43 inches). It even comes tapered to a 10 mm thickness at the edges, and if desired, one or two sides can be curved. As Zoom by Mobimex website adds, these many design options give “a pleasant tactile quality that can be appreciated afresh every day.”
