Brand van Egmond's Digital Dreams is the latest contribution to ultra-customizable A&D. As with Noodle's bespoke lampshades and wall coverings, Joseph Heidecker’s Photofurniture, and Magnet Me's personalized kitchen cabinetry, Digital Dreams takes that most intimate of individual mementos and transforms it into an alluring element of your d©cor. The artifact in question is the digital photo and the product it inspired is a stunning chandelier of interlocking picture frames.

The components of DD are similar to the individual digital photo frames you've seen-perhaps-on your mother's coffee table, yet this incarnation is an artful assemblage of some 21 (large model) or 6 (small) miniature picture shows interspersed with alternating glass frames. Each of DD's digital frames has a 1 GB internal memory-plenty of juice to power an extensive rotation of different photos.

Principals of Brand van Egmond, William Brand and Annet van Egmond, were inspired by the photography in their book Lighting Sculptures to explore ways of incorporating digital imagery into design. The resultant chandelier is attractive in its own right-the materials palette of glass and black iron nicely complements the modular/geometric structure-but the promise of an unending stream of captivating imagery propels Digital Dreams into a category beyond simple illumination.

Brand and van Egmond see the piece as a means to personal expression, "a very bare chandelier with a deep soul... the avantgardistic Digital Dreams embraces you, showing all your personal experiences in an easy way." Thus, DD can function as a flickering catalog of private photos, snapshots from the memories of an ongoing life that are always interchangeable and always expanding. And, of course, if you prefer to outfit DD with a less-personalized palette, you can do that too. No matter the content of the digital images that constitute your Digital Dream, it's sure to illuminate your space like no other light before.
