Reinterpretation of Classic Bergère: Doda & Doda Low by Laviani for Molteni & C
Sometimes a product takes on a life of its own simply by virtue of its name-or the name of its designer. Doda, or Easy in translation, sounds just about as welcoming as it looks: the short O, along with that pair of Ds, lends the piece a sloth-like countenance. In conjunction with the names of Doda's designer and manufacturer, both of whom have illustrious-sounding Italian names with lovely musicality, Doda gains an elegance.

The creation of Ferruccio Laviani for Molteni & C (and who doesn't love an ampersand?), Doda interprets "the classic bergère in contemporary style." With generous proportions and sinuous slopes, Doda fits in with lots of different design aesthetics, moving easily from commercial to home decor. I, for one, would love to ease into Doda during my next hotel stay-hoteliers, take note!

Presented at the 2009 Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Doda "stands out for its measured proportions between thicknesses and the meetings of straight and curved lines." And speaking of straight and curved lines, Laviani has a website composed almost solely of tracks and circles, since it mimics a subway map. Doda's proportions invite comfort and relaxation, quite fitting for a lounge chair. It gives users the added benefit of a fixed or moveable base, as well as a matching Easy pouf that turns the armchair into a chaise. Doda Low is another option from the Laviani/ Molteni & C team, featuring a lower back.
