Improving with Age: Viteo Presents Cementum Light
To look at the website of outdoor furniture manufacturer Viteo, one might think they're angling for casting the sequel to Where the Wild Things Are. Or perhaps the roster of human-legged, animal-headed models leisurely enjoying the cozy confines of the new Cementum Light Collection is the company's way of telling us how their products join the primitive with the domestic. And if Cementum rings a bell, that's because you've been doing your homework, or at least faithfully attending to this blog, because back in March of '09 3rings featured the original Cementum Fireplate: "defined by the cleanest of lines and simplest of shapes... Cementum allows you to create a modern campfire conveniently in your own backyard."

So how to improve on such sublime and concrete convenience? Throw in a dash of crushed limestone, a smattering of cement fibers, a generous slug of H20, and a breath of fresh air. Those are the components of Viteo's new recipe for contemporary outdoor enjoyment. Viteo calls this new material "AURIA,” and they've found that it rivals traditional concrete in a number of ways: "It is breathable and 100% recyclable. Due to a scratch-proof surface coating it turns out to be extremely weather-resistant. It is equipped with a high tech two-component coating that makes the material extremely resistant to scratches and influences of the weather."
Sounds like it's a bit more on the eco-savvy side, and it retains the same sculptural aesthetic as its ancestor. Cementum Light is modular, so you can mix and match among individual components like the 20 kg Bench 140, the 55 kg Table 140, and the 68 kg Firetable 140 (complete with a 360 degree rotate-able stainless steel electro polished-grill element), and the new planter 103-a 45 kg. decorative element with an inset stainless steel plant pot fairly begging for greenery. It's just the thing to soften the edges of Cementum Light's long, lean, and languorous lines.
